frvladimirFollowing his visit to Canary Wharf for Ash Wednesday, Archbishop Vincent Nichols has recognised the importance of the Catholic Community on Canary Wharf by establishing a permanent catholic chaplaincy to cater for the spiritual and pastoral needs of Canary Wharf workers.

The archbishop has appointed Mgr Vladimir Felzmann as chaplain. Mgr Vladimir brings to the Canary Wharf Chaplaincy many years of very varied pastoral experience.

Born in Prague in 1939, he came to London just after World War II. Having studied Civil Engineering at Imperial College, London and received his DD at the Lateran University in Rome, he was ordained priest in 1969 and in 1999, at the request of Cardinal Hume, awarded the title of Monsignor by the Pope.

Among other roles, he has worked in Catholic schools, founded and directed two annual Diocesan Pilgrimages to Lourdes and founded the Peer Educational Centres SPEC and LOFT at the All Saints Pastoral Centre at London Colney where he is still director, as well as SPECeast in Wapping.

After Easter Mgr Vladimir will begin celebrating the Tuesday lunchtime Mass. This is an exciting time for our community as Mgr Vladimir comes on board to help people who work in Canary Wharf with their spiritual lives.
